Born in Virgina, Brian Rose moved to New York City in 1977 to attend Cooper Union where he studied with photographer Joel Meyerowtiz. In 1980 he and fellow Cooper graduate Ed Fausty photographed New York's Lower East Side. In 1985 Rose began documenting the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall. That project has continued to the present, chronicling the fall of the Wall and the rebuilding of Berlin. His book The Lost Border, the Landscape of the Iron Curtain was published in 2004. After living in the Netherlands for 14 years, Rose returned to New York and began re-photographing the Lower East Side. That work, which encapsulates 30 years of history, has been published as Time and Space on the Lower East Side. Rose’s photographs have been collected by the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
