David Hilliard’s multi-paneled color photographs direct the viewer’s gaze across the surface—allowing narrative, time and space to unfold. He draws from personal histories to create new, imagined realities. Hilliard has exhibited nationally and internationally, and is the recipient of prestigious awards including a Fulbright grant and Guggenheim fellowship. An artist and dedicated educator, he received his BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art (MassArt), and MFA from the Yale University School of Art. He has taught at both of his alma maters, and at the Art Institute of Boston, Dartmouth College, and Harvard University, among other institutions. Hilliard’s photographs are in the Whitney, the MFA Boston, MOCA Los Angeles, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. His first book was published by Aperture in 2005. He is represented by Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, Carroll and Sons Gallery in Boston, Jackson Fine Art in Atlanta, The Schoolhouse Gallery in Provincetown, MA and La Galerie Particuliere in Paris, France. His work is on view at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts through May 18; his monograph What Could Be is forthcoming from Minor Matters Books.
