Jason Florio is a freelance photojournalist who was born in London and resides in New York City. Photography for him is a conduit to bridge a myriad of seeming barriers, be they linguistic, age related, or ideological. In his approach the most important thing about photography is the process. It is about being in the moment and about the connection with the person or place he photographs. It is about finding a way to describe himself and engage with humanity. His work has won a number of awards including 2010 International Photography Award’s ‘People Photographer’ of the year award, and the 2011 PX3 Gold Medal for –‘War’. He was the recipient of an Aperture Foundation grant for his This is Libya project. His work has been exhibited in solo shows in New York, San Francisco and China and is in a number of museum collections . He is a proud fellow of the Royal Geographical Society
