Louis Vorster has been shooting South Africa’s people and plains for over a decade. He works from a small portrait studio in Woodstock - Cape Town, but is essentially a social and fashion documentary photographer, with an interest in landscapes. His photographs offer an unglossed look at life in South Africa; ranging vastly from intimate portraits and drunk nights with friends, to formal studio work, to sobering documentary photos of impoverished communities, gang members and young prostitutes. After receiving his National Diploma (Industrial Design) in Johannesburg in 1996, Louis moved to Cape Town where he received a Higher Diploma (Industrial Design) the following year. He taught at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and the Vaal University of Technology for a few years before his visual communication background got him interested in photography. He honed his skills assisting top photographers in Cape Town and Joburg and has since had his work published in various local and international publications spanning advertising and editorial, to documentary and fine art.
