Rachel Barrett (b. 1981) is a visual storyteller who used photography to explore the world around her, memorializing pieces from the present and preserving the past. Her work is deeply rooted in nostalgia and memory with a primary interest in social and cultural identity, examining how individuals shape and define their sense of self within the context and coherence of others. A 2011 recipient of the Tracey Baran Award, the PDN 30 and a 2010 Tierney Fellow, her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with recent exhibitions at the 14th International Photography Festival in Lishui China and Milk Gallery in New York. She is an adjunct lecturer at Kingsborough Community College, a studio artist at The Invisible Dog Art Center and a freelance contributor for the New York Times. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
