Rachel Barrett (b. 1981) is a visual storyteller who uses photography to explore the world around her, memorializing pieces from the present and preserving the past. Her work is deeply rooted in nostalgia and memory with a primary interest in social and cultural identity, examining how individuals shape and define their sense of self within the context and coherence of others. A 2011 recipient of the Tracey Baran Award, the PDN 30 and a 2010 Tierney Fellow, Barrett has exhibited her work internationally in both solo and group shows and been published widely including in the New York Times and on the NPR Picture Show. A studio artist at The Invisible Dog Art Center, she is an Assistant Professor of Imaging at Kingsborough Community College and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
