American Born Israeli Rachel Papo began working as a photojournalist in the late 1990s and graduated from the School of Visual Arts, New York, with a M.F.A. in photography in 2005. Her works have been exhibited widely, including at ClampArt Gallery, New York; Griffin Museum of Photography, Winchester, Massachusetts; Paul Kopeikin Gallery, Los Angeles; Photographic Center Northwest, Seattle; and Fotofest Biennial, Houston. Papo's photographs have been published in the United States, Germany, England, Israel, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, France, Poland, Brazil, Estonia, Hong Kong, China, Korea and Turkey. She has won numerous awards, including selection as a winner of the 2009 Lucie Award as "Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year", selection as a 2006 finalist for the Santa Fe Prize for Photography, a 2006 New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship, and selection for the "Discoveries of the Meeting Place" Exhibition as part of the 2010 Fotofest Biennial. A monograph of her series Serial No. 3817131, documenting female soldiers in Israel, was published by powerHouse Books in 2008. Papo’s works are included in several public and private collections, including those of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago.
