Brian M. Cassidy and Melanie Shatzky

Prior to making films, Brian M. Cassidy and Melanie Shatzky began their career as still photographers. Since then, their films have screened at the Sundance, Berlin, Toronto and Rotterdam film festivals, MoMA, the National Gallery of Art, ICA London and Lincoln Center. They have won numerous international awards for their work and in 2012, the duo was nominated for a Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director. Their most recent films are the documentary The Patron Saints and the dramatic feature and the dramatic feature Francine, starring Academy Award winner Melissa Leo, which the New York Times called “a small gem of bleak, neorealist portraiture". Both Cassidy and Shatzky hold an MFA in Photography, Video and Related Media from The School of Visual Arts in New York City.
