Magnus Bjerk (b. 1980) is a visual artist working within a strict, clinical framework. His photographs often consist of staged situations blended with a non-staged documentary-style approach. In both cases, he aspires to elevate situations, actions and people beyond our everyday perception of them. Bjerk searches out people and objects that seem to be located outside of their usual context, as if they were put there by mistake. In these settings, he produces situations that radiate an ambivalent atmosphere, acting as intermediate stages between the conscious and the unsuspecting. Magnus has exhibited extensively internationally, is represented in numerous state and private art collections and has received several grants/stipends.
