Rachel Sussman grew up in Baltimore, punctuated by stints in Santa Fe and Costa Rica. She began a practice-based fine arts PhD at Central Saint Martins College of Art in London in 2008 (now on hold), attended the Bard MFA program in 2008 and received her BFA in Photography from SVA in 1998. Sussman is currently developing the critically acclaimed project The Oldest Living Things in the World, for which she researches, works with biologists, and travels all over the world to photograph continuously living organisms 2000 years old and older. Sussman is a TED speaker, appeared on CNN and the BBC, and has won numerous grants and awards. Her exhibition record spans over a decade, showing in galleries and museums in the US and Europe. Sussman is represented by Kneerim, Williams & Bloom, and her first book is due out in Spring 2014 from the University of Chicago Press.
